The 2027 AP schedule in short
- 2027 AP Exams run May 3–7 and May 10–14, 2027. Session 1 starts at 8 a.m. local time and Session 2 at 12 p.m. local time for most schools, including every school in the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Washington, D.C. (College Board).
- First day, Monday May 3: Human Geography and Physics C: Mechanics (morning), Biology and Italian (afternoon). Last day, Friday May 14: Comparative Government, Computer Science Principles and Spanish Literature (morning), Latin and Psychology (afternoon).
- Late testing runs May 17–21, 2027 with alternate exam forms. Your AP coordinator orders it, and it also covers two exams scheduled in the same session.
- Deadlines that come first: schools’ final exam-order deadline is November 13, 2026; the AP CSP, Seminar, Research and World Language digital portfolio tasks are due April 30, 2027, and Art and Design portfolios on May 7, 2027.
- Scores arrive in July 2027. College Board has not named the day yet.
The 2027 AP Exams run over two weeks, May 3–7 and May 10–14, 2027, with a morning session at 8 a.m. and an afternoon session at 12 p.m. local time at most schools. Late testing follows from May 17 to May 21. The tables below copy College Board’s official 2027 exam dates page and late-testing page, checked on October 15, 2026. Where we have a calculator for an exam, the exam name links to it, so you can see what a 3, 4 or 5 takes once you have a practice score.

What time do AP exams start?
College Board says that for most schools, including every school in the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Washington, D.C., Session 1 begins at 8 a.m. and Session 2 at 12 p.m. local time. “Local” means the clock where your school is, so a Chicago student and a Boston student both start at 8 a.m. on their own clocks.
From 2027, start times changed for some other locations to stop secure exam content from leaking across time zones. The exam-dates page does not name those locations. Alaska, the US territories and schools abroad are not in the list of places guaranteed the 8 a.m./12 p.m. times, so students there should ask their coordinator or check College Board’s AP Exam Start Time Lookup Tool.
Practical field details for exam morning:
- The start time is when the exam begins, not when you arrive. Your AP coordinator tells you when and where to report.
- Most AP exams now run in the Bluebook app. Some, like Calculus, Chemistry and the physics exams, are hybrid: multiple choice in Bluebook, free response handwritten in a paper booklet.
- Section timing for the exams we cover adds up to between 2 hours 10 minutes (Macroeconomics, Microeconomics) and 3 hours 15 minutes (the three history exams and English Language), before check-in and breaks. Plan food, water and any medicine for a long session, not a class period.
Which exams overlap, and what if two of yours clash?
Two exams in the same session cannot be taken on the same day. The most common clashes for students with heavy AP loads are below.
| Same session | Exams that clash |
|---|---|
| May 3, morning | Human Geography + Physics C: Mechanics |
| May 4, morning | US Government + Business with Personal Finance |
| May 4, afternoon | European History + Microeconomics |
| May 5, afternoon | Physics 1 + Physics C: E&M |
| May 6, morning | World History + Physics 2 + French |
| May 6, afternoon | Chemistry + African American Studies |
| May 12, afternoon | Computer Science A + Art History |
| May 13, afternoon | Environmental Science + Chinese |
| May 14, morning | Computer Science Principles + Comparative Government + Spanish Literature |
| May 14, afternoon | Psychology + Latin |
Table 3. Same-session pairs in the 2027 schedule (computed from Table 1).
If you have a clash, you take one exam on its regular date and the other in late testing. AP Central lists “exams scheduled for the same time” as a reason to order late testing. Calculus AB and BC share a slot too, but students take only one of them.
When is AP late testing in 2027?
Late testing runs Monday, May 17 to Friday, May 21, 2027. College Board uses alternate versions of each exam, and all late testers at a school take them at the published date and time. Your AP coordinator places the order. The deadline is May 14, 2027 for US schools and May 4, 2027 outside the United States, per the AP Central key-dates timeline.
| Day | Session 1 (morning) | Session 2 (afternoon) |
|---|---|---|
| Mon, May 17 | English Literature · European History · Networking | Business with Personal Finance · French · Human Geography |
| Tue, May 18 | Art History · Italian · Seminar · US Government | Cybersecurity · Japanese · US History · World History |
| Wed, May 19 | African American Studies · Biology · Microeconomics · Music Theory · Physics 1 | Spanish Language · Spanish Literature |
| Thu, May 20 | Chemistry · Computer Science A · Environmental Science · Latin · Physics C: E&M · Precalculus | Calculus AB · Calculus BC · Comparative Government · German · Physics C: Mechanics |
| Fri, May 21 | Chinese · English Language · Macroeconomics · Psychology · Statistics | Computer Science Principles · Physics 2 |

The late slot for an exam is fixed, so check it before you choose which clashing exam to move. For example, a student with Chemistry and African American Studies on May 6 afternoon could move Chemistry to May 20 morning or African American Studies to May 19 morning.
Deadlines that come before (and after) exam week
The exam dates are only half the calendar. These deadlines, from the AP student calendar and the AP Central timeline, catch more students than the exams do.
| Date | What is due | Who acts |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 13, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET) | Final deadline for schools to order AP exams. Later orders add $40 per exam, with some exceptions | School; students register by their school’s earlier date |
| Jan 22, 2027 | Deadline for SSD coordinators to request testing accommodations | School SSD coordinator |
| Apr 30, 2027 (11:59 p.m. ET) | Final digital portfolio submissions: CSP Create task, Seminar and Research tasks, World Language project reference | Student |
| May 7, 2027 (11:59 p.m. ET) | AP Art and Design portfolio due | Student |
| Jun 15, 2027 (11:59 p.m. ET) | Last day to request a score cancellation | Student |
| Jun 20, 2027 (11:59 p.m. ET) | Last day to pick your free score-send recipient | Student |
| July 2027 | AP scores released | College Board |

How to plan your study weeks around the schedule
A schedule is useful only if you work backward from it. Here is a plan built on the 2027 dates, with the reason for each step.
- Mark your exam days first (now). As of October 15, 2026, the first exam is 200 days away. Put each of your dates in a calendar or our homework planner so you can see which weeks are crowded.
- Start content review 8 weeks out: Monday, March 8, 2027. Eight weeks gives room to finish new content and still cycle through every unit twice.
- Take a full timed practice exam 4 weeks out: April 5, 2027. Score it with the matching calculator above to see how far you are from a 3, 4 or 5, and spend the next two weeks on the weakest section.
- Switch to timed free-response practice 2 weeks out: April 19, 2027. Timed writing shows whether you can finish each free-response question in its time limit, which untimed review hides.
- Order exams by date in the final week. Review the earliest exam last before it. Leave the night before each exam light.
Worked example. A junior takes AP Chemistry (Thu May 6, afternoon), APUSH (Fri May 7, morning) and Calculus AB (Mon May 10, morning). Chemistry and APUSH are about 20 hours apart, so both need to be review-ready by the end of April. Calculus has the weekend before it. A sensible split for the last two weeks is Chemistry and APUSH alternating daily through May 5, APUSH-only on the evening of May 6, then Calculus over May 8–9. If a mock APUSH exam scores in the high 3 range on the APUSH score calculator, that is the subject that gets the extra evening.

Where AP schedules trip students up
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “My exam isn’t on my school’s list” | You registered after your school’s internal deadline, which is usually earlier than Nov 13 | Ask the AP coordinator now. Orders after Nov 13, 2026 cost $40 more per exam |
| Two exams in one session | Same-session clash (Table 3) | Ask for late testing and check the late slot in Table 4 |
| Portfolio course and no score | Task not submitted in the AP Digital Portfolio by April 30 (May 7 for Art and Design) | Treat the portfolio deadline as the real exam date for that course |
| Arrived “on time” at 8 a.m. and was late | 8 a.m. is the exam start, not the reporting time | Use the reporting time from your coordinator |
| Accommodations not approved by May | Request filed after the January 22 school deadline | Contact the school’s SSD coordinator in the fall |

After the last exam
Once May 14 is behind you, the wait is about seven weeks. College Board says only that 2027 scores will be available in July. Our guide to when AP scores come out tracks the exact day, the June 15 cancellation deadline and the June 20 free score-send deadline. While you wait, you can run your remembered multiple-choice and free-response performance through the AP exam score calculator for a rough 1–5 estimate. You can also see how weighted AP grades lift your transcript in our GPA calculator with AP classes.
